Smt.SaraladeviSatishchandraAgarwal, Government First Grade College, Bellary is one of the oldest pioneering institutions in the entire state of Karnataka, established by Government of Karnataka and, Governed and Managed by Department of Collegiate Education, during 1985, aimed at spreading EDUCATION TO ALL irrespective of caste, colour, creed and religion, especiallyGirl Students and Rural Youth coming from weaker section of the Society . The College is permanently affiliated to Gulbarga University since 2003-04 and at present it is affiliated to Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Bellary. It is included under section 2f and 12 B of UGC Act 1956. The college is graded with ‘B’ by NAAC peer committee. The college takes pride in its history and heritage and is located on a sprawling campus of 2 acres of land in addition to 5 acres of common playground. The college started with the meager strength of 130 students in the beginning and at present college has a mammoth strength of over 3866. One of the special features of this college is that infew departments the girl students outnumber the boy students in terms of strength and the dropout rate is very negligible. There are 101 faculty members out of which 55 permanent and 46 are part-time lecturers with 22 Ph.D and 63 M.Phil Degree. Most of the faculty members are dynamically involved in Research activities and have to their credit a good number of publications in International and as well as National journals and also members of various Research Organizations with repute.
